June
MATH:
The students have brought home a Practice Test or study guide to help them prepare for their fraction test in Math this upcoming Tuesday, June 16.
The test will not be as long as the study guide, but I wanted to ensure it covered all the possible outcomes we have worked on.
The students solve many of the problems using fraction circles, diagrams or pictures, number lines, coloured tiles and tenths, hundredths or thousandths grids. They will be able to use these same tools during their fraction test. Some students have figured out the relationship between equivalent fractions and will multiply. Not everyone has yet, and at this point it is okay. We really want them to see the relationship and try to get a deeper understanding of what fractions mean and they are all at various stages of making those connections.
Attached is the answer key so that once they have completed the practice questions they may check to see how they did. If they have any questions they need to ask Monday. I would like to say they can come in early on Tuesday but I will be on patrol duty between 8:30 and 8:45. That being said, the point of the fraction test is to assess what they do know and what they still need to work on.

Spelling
Please note, spelling test will be on Thursdays. Attached are the spelling words for next Thursday.
All groups will have a spelling test on Thursdays. I will choose ten words from the list and 5 words that are not from the list but follow the spelling patterns rules that they learned this week.
You may want to practice spelling some words that were not on the spelling list but follow the spelling pattern, encouraging your child to use the spelling pattern. For example, if their spelling words include the 'ew', 'ue' spelling patterns for long u, then they could spell clue as 'clue' or 'clew' ... Which word spelling looks most familiar? Which one would you see if you were reading a mystery novel?
